Weather Synopsis for Thursday & Thursday
A short-wave trough exits the region Thursday with one band of weakly organized light rain and snow showers passing across the region during the morning hours on a moderate S-SW flow. Most areas will experience light precipitation tapering off during the day from south to north from mid-morning onward. With easterly gradients weak and little cool air remaining east of the Cascade Crest, Snoqualmie pass has made it over the freezing mark as of Thursday morning, while Stevens Pass hover around the freezing mark. Both passes are expected to warm slightly through the day.
A high pressure will begin building Thursday afternoon, bringing a gradual clearing trend and continued rising snow/freezing levels as it continues to amplify and drift slightly eastward through the day on Saturday. The ridge will divert incoming systems south to California or north into British Columbia. The Olympics may get brushed with some very light moisture from a warm front passing offshore Thursday evening and another north-bound low offshore on Saturday.
The high pressure will re-invigorate the off-shore gradient. Moderate E wind through the passes will be expected from Thursday night onwards and will increase slightly Friday night.
