Weather Synopsis for Sunday night through Friday
An unseasonably cold and very active weather pattern continues across the Pacific Northwest.
A perturbation spawned a surface low rapidly on Sunday over Southwestern British Columbia on Sunday. This slightly northward track will allow more moisture to make it into the North Cascades than originally forecast. The low is expected to track across the North Cascades Sunday night, bringing a round of snowfall with it. The southern Washington Cascades will get the most moisture overnight and the heavier precipitation will shift southward on Monday into Oregon on Monday as a well-developed warm front begins lifting northward in associated with another system rotating SE from the North Pacific. This warm front will bring some warming, but will not affect the mountains significantly. Strong to extreme winds will buffet southernmost Washington and particularly Oregon Cascades throughout the period.
On Monday night, the warm front lifts northward while a cold front drops SE, keeping the heaviest snow focused across the SW Washington Cascades and Mt. Hood areas with light to moderate snow in other areas. The associated low will stall just off the Washington Coastline on Tuesday.
From now until the end of the day on Tuesday, Mt. Hood is forecast to pick up 2-4 feet of snow and is expected to be severely impacted by strong to extreme winds.
