Weather Synopsis for Sunday & Tuesday
A lingering closed low will depart the region early Sunday, leaving sunny and cold conditions under light NW flow on Sunday.
A perturbation is forecast to spawn a surface low over Vancouver Island that will develop light to moderate snow, first over the Olympics Sunday afternoon and spreading to the Cascades Monday night. The low is forecast to track through the straight of Juan de Fuca and the central Washington Cascades during the course of the night. The system will bring a shot of strong winds to the west slopes of the Cascades from about I-90 southward during the evening areas. Paradise and Mt. Hood will be the big winners with this system with 8-12" of snow for Paradise and 12" plus for the Hood area, while most other areas will receive 2-4" with slightly more for Crystal and 6-8" for White Pass. Snow levels will be at sea level.
On Monday, there will be little to no break in the action as a stronger low brings a warm front into the Mt. Hood area and S Washington Cascades with increasing easterly flow and snowfall as the low lifts northward. This system will be one to watch as it will bring heavy snow to the mountains and likely the Puget Sound lowlands as well.
