Weather Synopsis for Saturday night through Sunday

A blocking pattern over the Central Pacific continues to allow a modified arctic air mass to bring cold lows across our region with snow levels at sea level throughout the forecast period.

Saturday night, the low that brought snow Friday and Saturday across our region moves south to the SW corner of Oregon with light snow showers lingering in the SE Washington Cascades and Mt. Hood areas. Winds will decrease and become light in many areas. However, a N-NE barrier jet wind along the east slopes of the Cascades and Fraser River outflow across NW Washington will be strong in the evening and will decrease to moderate during the night. Skies will also clear from north to south as snow showers mainly linger into the overnight hours over Mt. Hood and the SE Cascades of Washington State. Temperatures will be quite cold overnight.

On Sunday, light to occasionally moderate snow is expected to linger on the east slopes from the departing system and should be reinforced along the west slopes by the end of the day as a weak wave develops under cyclonic flow over Vancouver Island bringing an increase in winds to the southern part of the forecast area.

Sunday night, moderate snow with fall from about I-90 southward. Winds and snow will be heaviest to the south, particularly Mt. Hood. On the heels of the first wave, a stronger and more organized system will impact Mt. Hood and southern Washington with moderate to heavy snow and strong winds as a warm front lifts northward. Snow levels will rise slightly above sea level.
