Weather Synopsis for Wednesday night through Friday

We're in a bit of a transition period between weather systems Wednesday night through Friday morning. That means we'll see a decrease in showers in the Washington Cascades Wednesday night and Thursday before our next system approaches Friday afternoon. However, we won't see dry conditions develop. With lots of moisture trapped near the surface, you will probably experience cloudy conditions. Don't be surprised if you encounter a little drizzle, particularly west of the Cascade crest. More widespread precipitation may begin to enter the region Friday afternoon with most of the early moisture focused on the volcanoes and Olympics.

The big story continues to be the mild temperatures, and this doesn't appear to change over our short-term forecast. You may find above freezing temperatures at most trailhead locations. As a result, any precipitation ought to fall as rain with high elevation snow.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Friday night through Friday

The weather system arriving on Friday afternoon should hang with us into Saturday night before exiting the area. The weather models continue to disagree about how much precipitation will fall across our region. Each model continues to handle the low-pressure system differently as it impacts southern Oregon and California. Sunday appears dry as a ridge of high pressure builds over the eastern Pacific.
