Weather Synopsis for Thursday night through Friday

A flat ridge remains over the region Friday evening. High clouds associated with a weak shortwave trough should continue to increase overnight until the weak shortwave moves through during the early morning hours, bringing the potential for a trace of rain in some areas. Freezing levels 7500 ft and above on Thursday evening should begin to gradually lower as the trough brings a slight cooling and switches the flow WNWerly.

Mostly sunny skies are expected in most areas on Friday, but high temperatures Friday should be 5-10 F cooler than Thursday.  Winds increase ahead of a more significant trough arriving Friday night into Saturday.

Periods of rain and snow at lowering snow levels will increase Friday night in the north and the central Washington Cascades, before shifting into the southern Washington Cascades on Saturday. Snow levels should be low enough that Snoqualmie, Stevens, Baker, Paradise, and Crystal could see several inches of fresh snow by the end of the day on Saturday.

Winds should peak early Saturday morning in the moderate range in the north but should maintain or increase further south during the day.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Friday night through Friday

The western edge of the cool trough should linger over the region through Tuesday while the energy from the system mostly departs early Saturday night. Expect a few lingering snow showers Saturday evening with moderating temperatures into Sunday as temperatures return to near seasonal norms. Diurnal heating and cool air aloft should spark some afternoon rain/snow/graupel showers that could be locally intense, particularly during the afternoon hours.
