Weather Synopsis for Monday night through Tuesday

A weak low pressure system digging off the Oregon coast will continue to spin clouds and light showers northward overnight. While high and mid clouds should reach all areas, measurable precipitation is only expected as far north as the south Washington Cascades.  Tuesday should begin with partly sunny skies but light warm frontal moisture extending from a low pressure system in the Gulf of Alaska should bring increasing clouds along with very light rain and snow to the west slopes of the Cascades, the Olympics and Mt. Hood.

Precipitation will increase slightly Tuesday night as the frontal band stalls offshore. Upper level ridging over the west coast will begin to shift the frontal band northward on Wednesday for a drying and warming trend. A potential clearing trend is most likely for the south Washington Cascades and Mt. Hood Wednesday afternoon.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Tuesday night through Tuesday

A new wave developing along the stalled frontal boundary will approach the area Wednesday night as the upper level ridge begins to flatten and shift inland. This should open the door to increased amounts of moisture aimed primarily at the north Cascades through Thursday. Precipitation amounts should taper from north to south with little to no precipitation expected for Mt. Hood over this period. Snow/freezing levels should remain mild through Thursday night when a stronger frontal system blows through the area with the potential for significant winds, precipitation and eventual cooling headed into Friday.
