Weather Synopsis for Wednesday & Friday

The Pacific Northwest sits near the western edge of a cool upper trough over the Western US. A moderate jetstream is bringing cool air south along the west coast from Alaska to California with a cool northwest flow pattern continuing across the region through the forecast period. Expect below normal temperatures and snow/freezing levels well below pass level.

A front passed and dropped SE of the region and continues to bring snow showers off a moderate, but decreasing NW flow to the Mt. Hood area where 2-4" of additional snow could fall. Meanwhile, a convergence zone has sagged south and is weakening and bringing some light snow to the Mt. Rainier area, particularly the Crystal area, but this feature should lose organization with very light snow showers continuing in the Mt. Rainier area through the early afternoon. Many areas will see some sun.

A weak surface boundary will bring colder air east of the Cascades during the evening hours and may spark some snow showers along the east slopes of the Cascades as it moves southward. This feature will shift pass flow easterly.

A weak ridge of high pressure will nose into the region on Thursday, bringing generally sunny weather and light winds to the region.
