Weather Synopsis for Saturday night through Friday

Cooler than average conditions will continue for the foreseeable future.

A very weak disturbance has developed off the coast of Vancouver Island and is spinning slowly southward, providing enhanced light snow or snow showers on the back side of a broad upper-level trough sitting over the western US. Increased light snow shower activity is moving into the Cascades and will peak in the early evening hours with a flow pattern that generally rotates the moisture south of the Olympics into the Cascades. Mt. Hood will continue to see the most of this light shower activity with progressively less moisture as you head northward. As the low drops southward, it will reduce shower activity as a drying northerly flow moves over the region. Fraser River outflow will become moderate late Sunday night into Monday morning.

On Sunday, snow flurries will linger in some areas and the sun will come out in others.  February sunshine is likely to generate some cumulus clouds over the mountains in the afternoon with some additional flurries.

Sunday night, some light moisture may linger east of the Cascade Crest, producing very light snow. Elsewhere, expect cool and clearing conditions.

On Monday, a light NW flow will bring some clouds to the South Cascades as weak ridging noses into the region.
