Weather Synopsis for Tuesday night through Thursday

A well-established blocking pattern in the northeast Pacific remains intact. This pattern will persist for several more days, maintaining the status quo in the resultant weather. The nuts and bolts of the pattern consist of a large upper ridge extending to the Gulf of Alaska with an upper low-pressure circulation off the central CA coast.

The low-level offshore flow will intensify Wednesday creating some cold and blustery easterly winds along the Cascade crest and through the passes. 

The upper ridge begins to move east over the coastal areas by Thursday as the southern branch low-pressure system moves inland across southern CA. This will allow the air mass to warm across the Olympics, west of the Cascade crest and over the volcanoes. This will also begin the gradual transition to a more active pattern late in the week.

Extended Weather Synopsis for Thursday night through Saturday

The west coast ridge of high pressure will translate eastward across the forecast area Thursday night through Friday. Maintaining the dry conditions through late Friday.

The first upper trough and associated front in quite some time are slated to move across the region Saturday. This system appears to weaken considerably as it moves inland but will at least bring a shot of mostly light precipitation to the region, favoring the volcanoes.
