Weather Synopsis for Friday night through Thursday

A stalled low pressure system off the California coast will push a north-south oriented frontal band inland tonight. Light precipitation will reach all areas as the frontal boundary weakens as it moves through the Cascades. A shortwave approaching the area in the northern branch of the jet stream will reach the area on Saturday and keep showers in the forecast even as the initial frontal boundary washes out. Snow levels will lower slightly with the frontal passage but there won't be a significant cool down. Light easterly flow will help drag snow levels down to around 4000' for the Cascade Passes through early tomorrow morning, but easterly flow will ease during the day and snow levels will settle around 4500'.

The flow aloft will veer to the NW Saturday night and Sunday. Leftover showers will diminish, but a high amplitude ridge building offshore will trap low level moisture along the west slopes of the Cascades, Olympics and Mt. Hood on Sunday and perhaps squeeze out a few areas of drizzle. The east slopes of the Cascades will likely have a sunnier day to end the weekend.
