Weather Synopsis for Friday & Wednesday

An amplifying ridge is centered over eastern Washington on Friday with very mild weather across the region. The ridge will block weather systems from moving eastward Friday into the weekend. A weak system will move northward off the coast on Friday, limiting sunshine as a warm front by spreading mid and high-level clouds across the region, with thicker clouds over the Olympics during the morning hours producing drizzle or snow flurries west of Hurricane Ridge.

With a ridge to our east and weak low-pressure centers to the west, moderate easterly flow will be sustained throughout the forecast period with cooler air to the east of the Cascade Crest warming as it descends to the Puget sound lowlands.

A low-level inversion will develop as temperatures warm and winds weaken at crest level winds. Colder air sinks into the deeper valleys, creating a low-level inversion with low clouds and fog in the morning, decreasing in extent during the day Friday. The easterly flow will suck the low clouds and fog through the lower mountain gaps such as Snoqualmie Pass.

Mid and high-level cloud cover will decrease Friday night with fog likely less widespread Thursday night. Mostly sunny/clear weather is anticipated on Saturday through Sunday with high freezing levels throughout the Cascades and Olympics.
