Weather Synopsis for Tuesday & Saturday

A deep upper level low in the NE Pacific will send a number of Pacific frontal systems our way over the next few days.  A rapidly developing low pressure system is curling toward Vancouver Island this morning. Light rain and snow has developed ahead of the cold front, currently located just off the Washington coast this morning. The front is expected to lift NE and pass through the Cascades early this afternoon.

Snow levels are quite mild this morning but will fall through the day and end up in the 4500-5500 ft range by this afternoon. This system will bring a round of locally stronger southerly winds to the Olympics and northwest Cascades through at least early afternoon. Showers should generally become light and scattered in the afternoon as a cooling trend ensues. There may be a few sunbreaks this afternoon but generally cloudy conditions should prevail along the west slopes of the Cascades. Locally heavier showers should be seen in the Mt. Baker area in this pattern with moderate new snowfall accumulations likely above 4500-5000 ft. Scattered showers will continue Tuesday night as another Pacific frontal system approaches the area.

The next frontal system will slowly move inland on Wednesday, splitting as the Pacific jet drives the bulk of the energy into northern California during the day. This should smear light to occasionally moderate precipitation across the area and make for another cloudy day. Snow levels will slightly rebound into the 4000-5000 ft range Wednesday afternoon.  As the cold upper level low moves closer to the Pacific Northwest, colder air will filter into the area overnight as scattered light showers continue.
