Recreational Observation

West Slopes North - Canadian Border to Skagit River

Dec. 31, 2017, 10 a.m. PST

Weather: Clear, light winds at ridge top levels.

Snowpack: ~10cm of light snow over a breakable crust over more dry snow.

Area Description: I triggered a very small isolated windslab at ~5000’ on Shuksan arm near Mt Baker Ski Area on a north aspect. The slab was ~10cm thick and very soft. The fracture propagated quickly ~15m in front of my, I did not look back to see if it went that way as well. The crown ended where the aspect changed slightly towards north east (on the terrain feature). No other activity noted in the surrounding area.

Avalanches: One small slide triggered today. Lots of debris from recent activity on the Arm.
