Recreational Observation

Skinned up to 4,800' and descended from Yodelin

Dec. 27, 2017, 2 p.m. PST

Weather: Cloudy, below freezing temps, low to calm winds, light precip as the day progressed.

Snowpack: There is a widespread freezing rain crust at the surface with faceting snow below. We stopped going up at 4,800' as the crust was getting thicker and ski quality would not likely improve with elevation. The crust was less pronounced in the trees and likely destroyed any surface hoar formed by cold temps. Ski quality was poor.

Area Description: Lichtenburg South Face

Avalanches: none.
