Recreational Observation

Followed existing skin track up open slopes on the switchback trail to Victor pass. Selected a route to the valley bottom. Climbed out of kalahane and back to car.

Dec. 24, 2017, 1:30 p.m. PST

Weather: Overcast through the day. Light snow from 1030 to 1330 and S1 after that. Out of field at 1530, continuing snowfall.

Snowpack: 160-180cm depth at valley bottom. N aspect 5000 pen 27, boot 43. New snow depth 65 cm above crust. Density was 4f, upper 55cm, 1f 55-65. Variable snow conditions from deep powder to 15 cm wind board. Highly variable distribution of wind effected snow. Small releases of wind board with ski cuts.

Area Description: Bottom of Kalahane bowl, 5000 ft

Avalanches: Loose dry avalanche observed over the 12/23 skin track out ov Kalahane bowl. Debris of 30cm depth with an origin in an overhead chute. Unknown trigger.
