Recreational Observation

Annette Lake TH to edge of Olallie Meadows and into the west arm of the basin. Ascended Northwest Ridge to 5200 ft.

May 2, 2017, noon PST

Weather: Overcast and above freezing. Light drizzle at times. Warming trend noticed around 10 am until 3 pm when we got back to TH.

Snowpack: Saturated upper snowpack. Boot Pen - mid calf. Ski pen - minimal. Skinning was slow in the basin due to wet snow. Downhill was fun and 'surfy.' Snow did not grab as much as expected.

Area Description: Silver Peak Basin and Northwest Ridge

Avalanches: No avalanches noted. No new, large cornice failures noted. A lot of rollerballs at the head of the basin from the morning and previous days. Cornices, around 13:00, were beginning to shed some very small chunks, causing small rollerballs.
