Recreational Observation

Variable Routes - Original Plan was from Source Lake to Chair Peak Shoulder --> North Face to Chair Peak then assess from there. Chair peak was socked in, so we took the standard route to Snow Lake Divide. Melakwa Pass and Mt. Roosevelt were socked in as well so a circumnavigation of Chair Peak or an ascent of Mt Roosevelt were abandoned. Toured to West end of Snow Lake, waited for 30 minutes for a glimmer of hope, but turned around and retraced our route.

April 2, 2017, noon PST

Weather: Mid to upper 20s, snow showers throughout the day, with a 45 minute sun break at 11:45. Light to moderate winds.

Snowpack: Dust on crust in the morning, especially the north side of Snow Lake. In the early afternoon, while heading back to Source Lake, the pack got wet and heavy. Boot penetration on the Source Lake side was nuts deep. Ski penetration in the morning and in the Snow Lake area was bullet proof. Skinning on stepper aspects forced boot pack in a few isolated spots.
