Recreational Observation

took skier's route to summer trail above lower switchback. Went up central rib on SW face of East peak

March 9, 2017, 11 a.m. PST

Weather: Cloudy, overcast, snowing lightly most of the day. Started colder, first temp at top 11 AM was -4 C, by third run at 13:20, temp was 2 degree, wind was picking up and it was snowing hard. Rain at trailhead

Snowpack: Dug down to Valentine's Day melt-freeze layer, 90 cm down.. Shovel tilt showed cohesion in top 20 cm of fresh storm slab, Q2 slide surface. Shovel compression failed at 13 on same layer. Snowpack generally right side up. noted some sun crusts in spots. Snow well bonded to m/f crust at 90 cm. First two runs were ok cascade powder at the top, third run was rollerballs on every turn. No slides triggered.
