Cutting from skier's left to right on a ledge between Elevator Shaft and the Ropeline gully

March 9, 2017, 11 a.m. PST

Weather: Snowing heavily at 33F with a slow warming trend since morning

Snowpack: 8" heavy storm snow on top of 2-3 feet of decreasing density snow atop the Valentine's ice crust

Area Description: The Bluffs - Lower Alpental Back Bowls (Elevator Gate)

Avalanches: Triggered a D1 with a ski cut on a conservative angle (25-30°) on a knoll directly above Gib's Ledge. Slide released within the newest storm layer that fell overnight Wed -> Thurs. Slab propagated across the knoll, clearing it of new storm snow and depositing significant heavy debris 3-4' deep on the shelf beneath. Visual search indicated no tracks in the area, hasty beacon search revealed nothing.
