Recreational Observation

East Slopes North - Canadian Border to Lake Chelan

Dec. 15, 2014, 12:18 p.m. PST

Snowpack: Widespread SH observed. Predominantly size 2.5-3. Observed up to ridgecrest on northerly aspects on 12/14. On 12/15 above ~6000', most SH had been destroyed by wind, although some remained below newly formed thin windslabs. As part of an AIARE 1 course, we dug at ~6200' on a northerly aspect. The most pertinent results were CTM14 RP down 24cm running on 1mm rounding facets. We also had a RB4 on this layer. HS at the top of treeline was 140-180cm, and averaging around 100-120cm at treeline

Avalanches: no new slides observed. Wet loose slides of 2-4 days old were observed running on steep rocky solar aspects.
