Recreational Observation

Ascended through trees just west of the Phantom Slide Path, descended the open areas of the Phantom. Elevation range 3100-4800 ft.

Feb. 8, 2017, 7:30 a.m. PST

Weather: Overcast, light snow, winds calm to light

Snowpack: Found tree cone evidence of settlement in agreement with the telemetry numbers reported (6 inches), though there is still a large amount of unconsolidated snow out there as expected. Ski pole tests went easily 100+ cms down to the pre-storm crust. Ski pen 30-40 cm. Snow surface is still light and transportable by wind.

Area Description: SW slope of Snoqualmie Mountain

Avalanches: We observed several recent D1-D2 avalanches (Monday or Tuesday morning?) initiated on steeper terrain features, most of which ran on the crust now down 100 cm.
