Parked near the Umptanum Falls trailhead. Skinned up towards the Umtanum Ridge and skied back. Actual location is

Weather: Sky was overcast with a light breeze.
Snowpack: Dug a quick pit at 3000 ft. Hs is 70 cm. Rain crust at 30 cm. Buried surface hoar at 47 cm. Hst is 22 cm. Shovel shear Q1 at 47 cm while cutting block. Experienced 5 different instances of whumphing. Whumphing with shooting cracks locally. Upon inspection of one such whumphing with shooting cracks, whumphing failure appears to be at 47cm where 2mm surface hoar was found. While the snowpack is shallow, it is close to home for me.
