Recreational Observation

Yodelin west

Feb. 4, 2017, noon PST

Weather: Snowing steadily all day

Snowpack: No slabbing observed. Fantastic new powder snow, 15cm-40cm depending on elevation; on firm base (a crust of sorts was evident at 3500 ft, softer with elevation, no longer evident at 5000 ft).

Area Description: Yodelin west.

Avalanches: On 35-40 degree rollovers in ski tests we could kick off little dry loose sloughs that didn't run nor propagate. Any blocks early in the run were small and quickly dissolved into loose powder on the way down.
