Recreational Observation

Approached via Lanham Lake to 6250' on ridge. Stopped short of top due to time. Skied and exited Henry Creek drainage.

Jan. 29, 2017, 4 p.m. PST

Weather: Increasing clouds and wind through day. Moderate W winds @ ridge top in afternoon, S-1 in afternoon (lt. rain down low). Tree bombs became a concern as winds increased through the day. Very limited wind transport observed (not much available to transport).

Snowpack: Variable surface conditions! Upper bowl was wind effected but not terrible skiing, more sheltered area in the upper zone (NE) still held settled snow that skied well. E facing slopes lower down (~4500') had picked up a thin sun crust from 1/28. Below 4400' snow was heavy/warm. 1/17 IFcr was not easily discernible with quick probing in upper bowl.

Area Description: Jim Hill

Avalanches: Observed debris from two separate wet loose slides (D1.5) on steep E slopes under cliffs. Looked like they came down in last day or two.
