Worm Flow

Jan. 28, 2017, 2:30 p.m. PST

Weather: High clouds early blocking most solar input; clearing and hot sun late in the day. The previous day 1/27 was clear and very warm upon arrival at 4000' around 15:00

Snowpack: Windblown powder from 8000' to 6000'. Below that the day was heating up fast and the surface snow was becoming weak and sticky, sun crust on still shaded solar aspects. Under the surface snow was a strong icy layer

Area Description: St. Helens south side

Avalanches: small loose wet slides running on a smooth ice below 6000'. Other previous small loose wet slides observed in the area all D1. If the morning had been clear these would have been larger.
