Weather: clear, still; slightly warming

Snowpack: Stiff windpack above treeline, dry powder below; 12'' stiff wind slab above treeline with poor bond; no layers found of concern below treeline on W and N

Area Description: W side of Mt. Herman above treeline

Avalanches: 12" stiff wind slab released near shallow rocks at head of W slope on ski traverse; broke into large firm blocks and ran quickly down 30-35 degree slope between 300 and 400 vf
