Recreational Observation

Dropped North off Skyline and ascended to Tye Peak and skied the SE shoudler. Did a second lap to the North off Skyline and then up and out Moonlight Basin.

Jan. 9, 2017, 6 p.m. PST

Weather: Sky: OVC to BKN. Temps: -6c for most of the day. Winds: L from W to SW. Precip: S-1 in am, none in afternoon.

Snowpack: Surface forms were a mix of DF, PPgp, and DFbk from .5 to 1mm. Temps down 20 cm were -8c in 2 locations at 5,200'. HS 207-220cm at 5,200'. Light windslab formation overnight on East aspects that was max 20cm deep and not reactive. Ski tests on 35 degree slopes on N, SE and E aspects showed no signs of instability. Very steep (40 degree) micro-terrain had consistent sluffing. Ski quality was good.
