Recreational Observation

Ascended a well traveled skin track up the Bullion Basin Trail. Then turned south into a NE facing bowl below point 6479'. In this area the new snow was over a firm crust. Descended a NW 40 degree slope @ 6300'.

Jan. 9, 2017, 1:10 p.m. PST

Weather: Light to Moderate snowfall with light ENE winds. An additional 5cm throughout the day.

Snowpack: SW 25 degree slope @5400', HS 154cm, CTE RP 15cm down. NE 30 degree slope @ 6200' HS 140cm, CTM RP 29cm down, ECTX @ the same location. On the ground was 5cm of 2.5mm basal facets but showed bonding and stability on this large column.

Area Description: Bullion Basin NE and NW Slopes

Avalanches: None observed while on descent of a 40 degree NW slope. Loose dry snow releases from turns and no storm slabs observed.
