Recreational Observation

Stevens Pass

Jan. 3, 2017, 1:50 p.m. PST

Weather: clear and cold

Snowpack: New years powder has settled to 8-10 inches sitting on a very thin freezing rain or rain crust from sometime last midweek or just before the storm. New storm snow is faceting and near suface facets are forming above and below the crust. There were several of the steeper spots just above and below the road cuts where the storm snow had cracked/wrinkled/crinkled/shifted but not actually slid during or immediately after the storm. Suprising to me this didn't get reported already.
