Recreational Observation

Toured up to Artist Point and observed wind loading on many atypical aspects. Our group decided to ski into the Bagley Lakes basin via Blueberry Chutes on the North aspect of Table Mountain.

Weather: Clear, cold, gusty ridge top winds

Snowpack: Right side up, deep powder where not wind scoured. Terrain on and near ridges in the near treeline zone was wind loaded and we did encounter some stiff wind slab while travelling. Large cornices are building with recent snow and winds. We found good stability overall, other than some thin wind slab that appeared reactive on steep slopes.

Area Description: Artist Point & Table Mountain near Mt. Baker Ski Area

Avalanches: Observed a small, skier triggered wind slab on a steep NE slope of Table Mountain and a small, natural slide on a S facing slope on Mt. Herman.
