Recreational Observation

Skinned from Silver Star Creek from the Highway 20 gate to mid-slopes (up to 4,280') of Delancey Ridge (southern exposure).

Dec. 29, 2016, 1 p.m. PST

Weather: Overcast with low visibility. New overnight snow accumulation of 3-7" and snowing moderately (about 1" per hour estimated during ski). Daytime high temps of 29 degrees at 2,200' with moderate warming from previous day (sunny and clear).

Snowpack: Total snow depth: 100cm. 2-4mm of basal faceting was found at the interface of the ground and snowpack. Compression test: CT 18--> 35 RP; CT 21-->80 RP. Entire block shook on basal facets during CT and easily pulled from ground after CT.

Area Description: Delancey Ridge, SSE Slopes 3,600'-4,280'

Avalanches: None observed.
