Snowpack: Loud "whumpf"triggered on ascent near 4,700' elevation on SW aspect of Delancy Ridge. Felt sudden collapse in snowpack about 30 feet downslope of where "whumpf" was triggered. Terrain was well anchored by alder clumps and other brush, no shooting cracks observed. Unable to determine failure plane, potential persistent weak layer. Rough shears noted on SW aspects about 18" deep.
