Recreational Observation

Skied past Highlands Bowl and down to Mill Creek in lower angle terrain and towards HWY 2. All open terrain was 30 degrees or less, though some trees and rollovers were in the 35 degree range.

Dec. 28, 2016, 6 p.m. PST

Weather: Sky-Broken to Overcast. Winds-L to M from the NW. Temps were at -6c for most of the day. At times leeward slopes were being loaded at 5,200'

Snowpack: Snow above the 12-20 IFrc was about 60 cm and very weak in all spots with F hardness (did not observe in any wind loaded areas, where it was likely harder). Small, steep test slopes on treed runs would release very small storm slabs and dry-loose. Snow SFC temps were -4c and down 20cm -5c. Hand pits failed on cuts and had very little slab structure.

Area Description: Stevens Pass BC. Skied E-SE to Mill Creek Valley (2 laps) and W to HWY 2.

Avalanches: Saw a distant D2 on a Ridge W of Skyline Ridge from a distance. It was on a Southerly aspect and quite far away from our location. It appeared to be a natural.
