West Slopes South - South of I-90 to Columbia River

Dec. 25, 2016, 10:10 a.m. PST

Weather: Overnight low of -7 C with no clouds, temp at time of observation around freezing. No blowing wind, with only brief spells of mild precipitation.

Snowpack: At around 3600': 175 cm total depth, several crusts: 12 cm down 2 cm deep, 21 cm down 20 cm deep, 59 cm down 7 cm deep. Did not investigate snow forms. Boot pen 20cm in places but generally < 5cm, no ski pen.

Area Description: Pit and snow cave on SSW aspect of a minor (~50 ft prominence) ridge near treeline in the MSH area.

Avalanches: None encountered, none triggerable by ski cuts.
