Recreational Observation

Skinned up and descended 30 degree slopes and clear cuts to the highway.

Weather: Precip: No Sky: Broken to Overcast Wind: L-M out of West Temps: Low -6c, High -1c

Snowpack: Surface forms are SH, DF, PPsd and PPgp below 5,500'. Above is DFbk with no ski pen. Handpits showed 10-15cm over an IFrc that is supportable but deteriorates with elevation gain. Below is weak snow and the 12/17 PWL. When the crust was isolated, we had clean shears on the 12/17 layer. The upper snowpack is weak over and under the supportable crust.

Area Description: Arrowhead Mountain, West Face.

Avalanches: None. No signs of instability on ski tests.
