Parked at gun mount . Ascended valley bottom via E.R. La Chapelle safe rt. , at toe or beyond avy. run out zones. NOT " Modern Guide Rt." , Up " Pete's Wailing Wall" old growth trees , past "Skier B's" cut , to alpine bowls. 5 skier sleds parked in Spire Gulch "Red Zone" at hairpin !

Dec. 10, 2016, 12:33 p.m. PST

Weather: Mod. to heavy snow , intermittent , good visibility , 20deg. ,light winds increasing at 12:30 to moderate. Increasing heavy snow fall by evening.

Snowpack: 2.5 ' ski pole and boot penetration . Knee deep trail breaking . Facets layer down 70 cm . Recent snow , sloughing with skiers during decent . Still air pockets and hidden bridge failures. , BEWARE , very large , dangerous , loaded tree bomb hang fire in the area ! ... Deep tree wells.

Area Description: S. Hairpin Valley , Wa. Pass , N.C. Hwy. 20. Wa.

Avalanches: Many natural soft slab failures from point releases on cliff faces , cornice fall , and on loaded convex rollovers down to below tree line on E. to NE. aspects , approx. 12" crowns. Tree bombs did not cause slab propagation below tree line .
