Recreational Observation

Skied runs on the northeast slopes of Hyak Mtn, N and NE aspects. All below tree line.

Dec. 11, 2016, 11 a.m. PST

Weather: Moderate to heavy snow, cold in the morning and warming slightly throughout the morning.

Snowpack: Storm snow from last night deposited approximately 6-8" of new snow. Approximately 1-1.5" of new snow fell between 9-11am. Snow from last night's storm was noticeably more dense than the snow from the Friday night storm. The snowpack is shallow enough that it is still well anchored at Hyak.

Area Description: Went back to Hyak for a few runs in the morning. Ski area still closed.

Avalanches: No avalanches seen while we were skiing but we noted one small loose dry point release on the side of the highway on the west side of the pass near the summit on the way up. Likely triggered by snow falling off a tree. No other signs of instability noted.
