Comments: Nordic Patrol, Alta pit above Paradise: The Ice Layer is 1m down. Below that, consolidated. Soft slabby snow above, mostly 1 finger. Found a buried zipper crust at 35cm, 4 finger resistance. In 2 compression tests, fractured on that 35cm interface @ 8 taps, and on 2 weak interfaces (buried frost?) at 12cm & 16cm, also 8 taps to fracture. Shovel shears on those layers revealed Q3 resistant shears at those interfaces. Later near Pan Point, found the ice layer was only 30cm down, covered with wind-scoured slab, well bonded. Witnessed no instability all day.
