Recreational Observation

From ski area hiked to big chief and dropped north to highway.

Feb. 19, 2016, 4:37 p.m. PST

Weather: S1 to S2 all day.

Snowpack: New snow was bonding well to crusts. With elevation loss there was a marked difference in snow amounts. About 6-7 inches at 5,000' and less than an inch at highway.

Area Description: Skied north from 5500' or so to highway. New snow at 10 am was well bonded to crusts and reasonably unconsolidated. The snowfall rate in the afternoon was moderate to heavy at times and likely increased storm slab and loose dry potential.

Avalanches: None.
