Recreational Observation

WSW slope, 35 degree slope angle, sparsely treed

Jan. 8, 2019, 12:45 p.m. PST

Weather: Heavy snow (S2). High to extreme East wind.

Area Description: Crown Point

Avalanches: SS-AS-R2-D2-N In the Crystal Mountain back country on 20180108 my group observed two Loose Dry avalanches triggered by ski cuts in the morning hours. After more loading, at approximately the noon hour, the load had increased enough where a ski cut produced a Large Storm Slab avalanche. We then moved to lower angle terrain and exited the field.
