Canyon Creek

Jan. 5, 2019, 5:30 p.m. PST

Weather: BKN skies all day - increasing winds observed in ATL in the afternoon, renewed wind transport that elevation band.

Snowpack: HS in NTL 200-250cm. Below 5500' 10-15cm 1F dry snow over +100cm of moist, very rain affected storm layers. Could not ID old snow surface or 12/28 SH. Above 5500' 15-20cm of 4F-1F dry snow over 75cm of moist snow (1F<>P) that fell at just below freezing temps and minimally rain affected. ID'd old snow surface down 75cm and 12/28 SH down 115 - SH difficult to ID. Pockets of wind loading NTL 'ly aspects.

Avalanches: Wet avalanche debris observed in BTL+NTL on all aspects - many (~20) loose wet in origin and a few (~5) that initiated as slabs. Debris generally covered with 10-20cm dry snow. These all likely initiated during rain event 1/3. No avalanches observed in dry snow from end of precip.
