Recreational Observation

Approached Pineapple Pass via Snow Lake. Topped out around 4900' (just below the pass)

Jan. 5, 2019, 11:30 a.m. PST

Weather: Scattered clouds. Light winds above treeline.

Snowpack: Very firm crust from Source Lake up to Pineapple Pass. Difficult to penetrate the snow. Tree shedding and rain drip made skinning in the trees very difficult. Great Scott Bowl was wind scoured and increasingly icy/firm as I gained elevation. There were a few spots where wind drift made for smooth turns but they were few and far between.

Area Description: N Aspects above source lake.

Avalanches: Avy debris was at the bottom of most of the chutes along the Tooth/Bryant Ridgeline. Glide cracks observed on steep rock faces, all aspects.
