Skinned up to ridge line between Surprise and Trap lakes.

Weather: Cloudy, calm

Snowpack: Dug a pit at 5500 ft, west facing, 37 degrees: 15" of powder on the rain crust. Resistant planar shear at 8" (CT-15) and 15" (CT-25). Also found sugary layer at 28", but this was not reactive.

Area Description: Skied west-facing trees on the east side of Surprise lake.

Avalanches: Crowns on steep east-facing slopes above Trap lake at ~6000 ft (see photo).
