Recreational Observation

We were skinning/snowshoeing up to Snow lake between noon and 4:30 PM on January 1, 2019 and observed several areas of recent avalanche activity through the afternoon. We did not trigger any slides or witness any active slides.

Jan. 1, 2019, 1 p.m. PST

Weather: Partly sunny

Snowpack: We did not dig into the snow pack but skiing was a shallow layer of dense powder on a a crust.

Area Description: Snow Lake Trail/Apental Area

Avalanches: Observed a large wet avalanche debris field on West facing slope at 3600'. I would guess this slide occurred on Saturday as the debris was covered by a think layer of snow. The debris was frozen and made travel difficult.
