Recreational Observation

Road to trailhead blocked near turn off for Kacheelus Dam road. Once trailhead was reached, we ascended a NW slope up to the ridge line and then began our ascent of a SW ridge line up to Para Point. From there, we went along the ridge to the summit of Mount Baldy.

Dec. 31, 2018, 6:39 p.m. PST

Weather: Clear Skies and Sunny with slight wind from the east on ascent to Para point. Once the main ridge was achieved, slight wind came from the south.

Snowpack: Early morning - clear signs of faceted snow on the snow surface along the trek up to the summit in uncovered areas. After reaching Para point, wind loading on North facing slopes with small cornice formation and cross loading on South facing slopes could be seen. The ridge was scowered and had a hard crust in areas where trees did not block the wind.

Area Description: Easton exit 70 heading up to Mount Baldy.
