Recreational Observation

Approached via Nason Creek & up the SW rib under the horn of Lichtenberg. Nason Creek is quite open with limited opportunities for crossing.

Jan. 30, 2016, 4:30 p.m. PST

Weather: Overcast & broken skies throughout day. Light snow for most of afternoon hours. Light SSW winds occasionally gusting to mod.

Snowpack: 30-40 cm of HST appears to be very well bonded to the refreezing snowpack. Did not observe evidence of significant wind transport. A surprisingly thick (up to 1 cm)& skiable (though annoying) sun crust formed despite significant cloud cover throughout the day. Excellent ski quality on non-solar aspects.

Area Description: Yodelin - Lake Valhalla area 3600'-5200'

Avalanches: No recent avalanches observed. We did notice several significant (D2 & D2.5) wet slides on SW and SE aspects of Lichtenberg that most likely released during the rain event.
