Recreational Observation

Skied Commonwealth to Kendall lakes to chutes, which had been skied the day before.

Jan. 25, 2016, 4 p.m. PST

Weather: Overcast and light mist changing to sun breaks as day progressed and mostly sunny at the end of day. Notable warming throughout the day.

Snowpack: Moist 4-6" on top of a rain crust.

Avalanches: Noted many natural loose wet avalanches on solar aspects from the day before. Roller balls on sunny aspects. At the bottom of Silver Twins, a large slab avalanche had released on what we guessed was the buried PWL. Approx 1 m deep crown, 200 m wide. This likely occured during the warmup and rain last week (the debris had new snow on top).
