Heavy old growth treed, gullies, ribs, pillows ,undulating , outcroppings, glades and openings ,wind sheltered.

Weather: snowing 2 " per. hr. continuous , warming , 31 deg . no wind.

Snowpack: 12" new snow , warm over cold . no whumping or shooting cracks. no pit profile .

Area Description: N aspect 3400'-4400' Silverstar region.

Avalanches: Lg. tree bombs were triggering any rollovers to release. If this was above openings the impact would trigger 12" crown releases the full width of the open slope , est. 100' and run from 100-150' depending on steepness. Many freshly fallen trees . Active tree bombing and treewells were major concerns. Bomb blasts were powerfull, and chilling. A calculated exit was executed successfully.
