Recreational Observation

Rang in the New Year by touring into the Coleman Pinnacle zone via south side of Table Mtn, Ptarmigan Ridge and upper Wells Creek.

Jan. 1, 2015, 10 p.m. PST

Weather: Scattered high clouds, temps from upper 20's to low 40's, C-L winds rising by afternoon to M from the SW

Snowpack: HS was 220cm at 4600ft head of Wells Crk. Variable wind effect near treeline and in open alpine. N-W aspects, anything low angle, and shallow gulley features held cold, settled snow that skied well. Wind slabs were between 10-30cm and not reactive. We skied a steep 40deg NW asp at 6000ft near Coleman Pinnacle that did not budge. All solar aspects were horrible ski quality.

Area Description: Mt Baker BC - Coleman Pinnacle zone

Avalanches: Aside from the typical size D1-2 wet loose on the south side of Table Mtn, no other recent avalanches observed. No cracking, whumphing or results from slope tests.
